Balalyk Web —State Kindergarten Registry& Online Enrollment System
A public web platform created to eliminate bureaucratic opacity, provide an online registry of state kindergartens, and ensure transparent enrollment tracking in Kyrgyzstan
Task
Digitize and bring transparency to state kindergarten enrollment in Kyrgyzstan — eliminating bureaucratic confusion, waitlists, and corruption risks by building a unified public portal for parents.
Approach
I designed an open web platform featuring a public kindergarten directory, an interactive map, and clear visibility into available spots. The entire UI uses a clean, high-contrast aesthetic to maximize usability and clarity
Parent Dashboard
A dedicated parent dashboard for tracking queue progress in real time and managing essential documents
Problems
System opacity: parents lack visibility into real-time application stages and fear unfair waitlist prioritization.
design solutions
01
Displayed the application status and live queue position in a large font with color coding (e.g., '#12 in queue'), ensuring complete transparency.
02
Added a dashboard featuring response deadlines and real-time status updates (Approved, Needs Attention, Enrolled)
03
Designed an application activity log so parents can track every step of their document verification by the authority.
Kindergarten Profile Page
A detailed facility profile featuring photo galleries, real-time spot availability, an interactive map, and waitlist metrics.
Problems
Parents struggle to evaluate kindergarten facilities and verify actual spot availability without visiting in person.
design solutions
01
Positioned the age-group capacity block at the top of the page, allowing parents to instantly assess enrollment chances.
02
Added an interactive map with precise geolocation and physical address at the bottom of the page to help parents evaluate commute convenience.
03
Fixed the primary green 'Apply Now' button within view, enabling parents to instantly initiate enrollment
Enrollment Form
Kindergarten Enrollment Form
Problems
Filling out government forms is typically overwhelmed with bureaucratic fields, making it easy for users to make mistakes.
design solutions
01
Designed intuitive child selector cards for one-click applicant selection during the enrollment flow
02
Added automated data pre-filling from the parent profile to minimize manual typing.
03
Added clear helper text near document upload fields (PIN, birth certificate) to prevent errors during verification
Children Profile Management
A centralized registry of all linked children, displaying live enrollment statuses and attached agreement documents
Problems
For families with multiple children, tracking different kindergartens, assigned age groups, and application statuses across fragmented tools was confusing and time-consuming.
design solutions
01
Grouped all children into a clear, unified table displaying facility details, age group, and real-time status ('Enrolled', 'On Waitlist')
02
Embedded direct contract download links right within each child's row for quick access to legal documents
03
Positioned the primary 'Add Child' CTA in the top right corner for effortless linking of a new profile to the account
Child Attendance Tracking
Interactive attendance calendar with child-specific daily check-ins and absence tracking.
Problems
Parents struggle to monitor actual kindergarten attendance and track absence reasons (medical vs. unexcused) in real time.
design solutions
01
Designed intuitive calendar cards for each child with color-coded daily tags ('Attended', 'Sick Leave', 'Unexcused Absence')
02
Positioned top-level attendance metrics above each calendar card to deliver at-a-glance monthly absence summaries
03
Added an intuitive month selector in the top corner for reviewing historical attendance data.
Child Activity History
A detailed timeline of all enrollment statuses, transfer requests, and application milestones for each child over time.
Problems
Lack of history transparency: parents struggle to trace past application submissions, rejections, or kindergarten transfer requests over time.
design solutions
01
Organized historical records into an intuitive timeline with exact date-and-time markers, providing complete transparency for past actions
02
I used clear color coding and icons to differentiate between event types, such as 'Enrolled,' 'Transferred,' 'Rejected,' and 'Graduate'.
03
Displayed the child's name and current status in the modal header to preserve user context
Landing Page
A central public portal for discovering kindergartens and submitting online enrollment applications
Problems
Parents don't know where to start the kindergarten application process and doubt the transparency of the online system
design solutions
01
Placed a clear 'How It Works' step-by-step guide with intuitive icons directly on the main screen to eliminate process ambiguity.
02
Added an 'Apply Now' button at both the top and bottom of the landing page to shorten the application flow.
03
Displayed transparent platform metrics (number of kindergartens, submitted applications, and available spots) to build user trust.
